Why a Strong Brand Identity Is Essential for Business Growth

September 12th, 2025 | By Katryna Eastwood

Lately, it feels like every time you scroll through social media, another big brand is announcing a rebrand. Cracker Barrel, Mindbody, La-Z-Boy — these household names have dominated headlines, sparking conversations (and sometimes debates) about fonts, logos, and brand direction. Around the Kinetic Greenhouse office, these stories have been hot topics, and they raise the question:

Is rebranding right now just a trend?

The answer: strong branding has never been more important — and companies are leaning into it not just to stay relevant, but to grow. If the biggest names are prioritizing branding, it’s a signal that smaller businesses should take it seriously, too.

Why Branding Matters More Than Ever

To explain, let me tell you a little story.

I’ve been clinging to the same set of (cute but wildly impractical) mason jar cups since college. They’ve followed me through every move, mostly because of nostalgia. But last week, I hit my breaking point. They weren’t practical — they didn’t stack well, they didn’t hold enough iced coffee, and frankly, they were annoying.

So, I drove to HomeGoods in search of new drinking glasses. The shelves were packed with options, almost overwhelming in their variety. But without even thinking, I gravitated toward brands I recognized. Not because I had loyalty to any one glass company, but because familiarity created trust.

I ended up paying an extra $8–$16  for a brand I knew, even though some of the cheaper options looked exactly the same in terms of product. Why? Because branding influenced my comfort level, my perception of quality, and ultimately, my decision.

This is exactly what branding does. It doesn’t just live in a logo or a tagline; it lives in the way your audience feels when they encounter your business.

What Strong Branding Achieves

From my glass-shopping moment, we can break down how brand identity directly impacts business:

  1. Differentiation in a Crowded Market
When options feel endless (especially online), a recognizable brand helps you stand out instantly.
  2. Building Trust and Credibility
Consumers naturally lean toward brands they know, even without deep loyalty. Familiarity signals safety.
  3. Increasing Brand Recognition and Awareness
Every interaction — social posts, packaging, website design — builds a memory bank in your customer’s mind.
  4. Justifying Premium Pricing
People will spend more on a brand they trust, even when alternatives look identical.

Why are so many companies rebranding right now?

Rebrands often reflect shifts in consumer behavior, competitive landscapes, or technology. With oversaturation in nearly every industry, companies like Cracker Barrel and Mindbody are refreshing their identities to stay top of mind and align with modern audiences.

Is rebranding worth it for small businesses?

Yes. Small businesses benefit from strong branding just as much (if not more) than larger ones. A consistent and recognizable brand can build credibility, attract loyal customers, and help justify pricing in competitive markets.

What makes branding so powerful in purchasing decisions?

Branding reduces decision fatigue. In crowded marketplaces, consumers naturally turn to names they know, because recognition builds trust — even if they’ve never made a purchase before.

From coffee mugs to enterprise software, the same principle applies: people buy from brands they know, like, and trust.

If major companies are investing heavily in rebranding, it’s worth asking: is your brand positioned to stand out in the same way?
