Our Award Winning Collaboration with YWCA Billings

December 9th, 2024 | By Ryann Reeves

At Greenhouse, Kinetic’s small business division, I had the privilege of shining a light on a cause I deeply believe in. This video project for the YWCA exemplified how impactful storytelling can amplify an organization’s mission. The video debuted at the 2024 YWCA Purse-a-Palooza as a donation appeal, but it wasn’t just about raising funds—it was about sharing a vital message, inspiring hope, and supporting a cause that drives real change.

I loved working on this project. It gave me a deeper understanding of the YWCA’s mission and their new initiative aimed at raising critical funds. The video highlighted the variety of services YWCA provides, including safe housing, emergency helplines, coordination with local law enforcement, and access to legal resources. By listening closely to their goals and vision, we ensured the video authentically reflected their values while effectively engaging their audience.

One of the most inspiring parts of this project was learning about their new initiative: a centralized hub where those in need can access all services in one location. This approach eliminates the need to navigate multiple locations during a crisis, making it so much easier for individuals and families to get the help they need.

Collaborating with Passionate Advocates

From the very beginning, working with the YWCA team was an inspiring experience. Their unwavering focus on hope and resilience guided my creative process, helping me prioritize positive transformation without sensationalizing difficult topics. Their dedication to empowering individuals and addressing systemic issues shone through in every conversation.

One of the key lessons I took away from this collaboration was the power of teamwork. YWCA relies on collaboration—both internally and externally—because they know that tackling systemic issues like domestic and sexual violence requires collective effort. Their commitment to bringing people together to create meaningful change left a lasting impression on me.

Crafting a Story of Hope and Empowerment

Nonprofit storytelling requires a delicate balance: inspiring action while respecting the privacy and dignity of those served. For this video, we leaned into creative storytelling techniques to honor that balance.
Instead of featuring individuals directly, we paired compelling visuals with heartfelt voiceovers. Partnering with videographer Sam Steingraber of Samuel Roland Films, we helped capture imagery that conveyed hope, support, and empowerment. This approach allowed us to communicate the YWCA’s profound impact while safeguarding the privacy of those they help.

We intentionally focused on resilience and positive outcomes, creating a sense of possibility that motivates donors to act. This perspective helped ensure the video inspired viewers, showing how their contributions can lead to meaningful, lasting change.

The most rewarding part of this process was hearing how deeply the video resonated with the audience. It wasn’t just a fundraising tool—it became a beacon of hope for the community, spotlighting the YWCA’s incredible daily work.

One of my favorite moments came from Erin Lambert, CEO of YWCA Billings, who delivered this powerful statement in the video: “Domestic violence won’t stop until we stop it. This is a generational problem, and the YWCA is stepping in to say no more.”

Celebrating the Impact

The success of the YWCA fundraising video went far beyond its original purpose. Not only did it raise vital funds and awareness, but it also earned a 2024 Platinum Viddy Award. This recognition highlights the power of pairing a nonprofit’s mission with authentic, impactful storytelling.
At Kinetic Greenhouse, we’re passionate about helping nonprofits amplify their impact. If you’re looking to tell your organization’s story in a way that inspires action, I’m here to help. Let’s create a video that not only shares your story but also motivates others to join your cause.
